
The venerable Hill Country motorcycle route, the Devil’s Backbone, links Fredericksburg and Wimberley through ruggedly beautiful Central Texas, just southwest of Austin. Today, we follow the tracks of our biking brethren and discover the rutted landscapes around 1/4 of its length between Canyon Lake and the eastern extreme of the Texas Wine Trail near Driftwood. With sprawling canyonland views sloping to either side of the ridge-running road and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the agreeable Spring temperatures, shooting up the Devil’s Backbone makes for a great day of scenic driving and exploration.
