Detour to Different
Whether on a weekend getaway or common commute, don’t just come home. Come home with stories to tell.
Admittedly, we here at the Detourist Guide are local travel geeks and cannot contemplate a better way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon than seeking out the oft hidden or forgotten places and stories of our neighbourhoods, backyards and backcountries. The highs of adventure and discovery are always right around the corner and we don’t have to travel far to find them.
3 Things You Need to Know:
This Site is our Notebook
1 – Having spent years exploring tourism’s underbelly and the last 4 actively cataloguing our findings, the Detourist Guide highlights the off-beat routes and destination gems of our local landscapes throughout Canada and the United States.
We Are Excited To Explore
2 – We are not web people, but what we lack in digital skills we make up for with passion. As we figure this out, we’ll continue to seek out fun and convenient ways to convey our findings in the hopes we can get you as excited about local exploration as we are.
Getting Lost Is A Mission
3 – For us, getting lost is not a problem – it’s a mission . We’ve stumbled across many of the things you’ll see on this site by charting new paths to familiar places or just by choosing random directions of travel. Cool stories and sights are just around the bend from you, down that road and behind those trees. No kidding. Now, get lost!
As Patricia Schultz notes in her book 1000 Places to See Before You Die, travel is not about distance. Some people jet around the world to exotic sounding destinations and are no better for the experience. Others can walk around the block in their hometown and return with a “quart of milk and stories to tell.”
Exploration happens as soon as we set foot outside our homes. With tips, maps and itineraries we want to help you make the most of these opportunities.
